Transfer a GPS Tracker to a New Owner
How to transfer your tracker when you sell your vehicle
If you have sold your vehicle and need to transfer your GPS tracker to a new owner, Track My Ride support can help you complete the transfer. It's important that the new owner registers their own Track My Ride account so they will not have access to your historic private GPS tracking data.
Do not give the new owner your Track My Ride account details. If you do, they will have access to your private GPS tracking history if you share your account credentials. They will create their own personal account with your tracker once the device is removed from your account.
Transferring Your GPS Tracker
Step 1: Find Your Tracker's Communication ID
Each Track My Ride GPS tracker has a unique Communication ID that identifies the tracker on the network. This code is printed on a label on the tracker, on your original box, and shown in your account. The new owner will need this Communication ID to register the tracker under their own account.
To find your tracker's Communication ID:
Access your Track My Ride account at https://app.trackmyride.com.au or using the mobile app.
Navigate to the Vehicles page by clicking the truck icon.
Locate the row for your vehicle and press the green plus button to expand the row and view your vehicle's details.
Your vehicle's Communication ID will be shown. For example, a Communication ID might look like "B343B8."
You will need to give this Communication ID code to the new owner. Don't worry, they cannot activate your tracker against their own account until you complete the additional steps below to remove the tracker from your account.
Step 2: Deactivate the Tracker on Your Account
You need to deactivate the vehicle and tracker from your account. Deactivating the tracker ensures you won't be billed for it anymore and authorises Track My Ride support to remove the tracker from your account in Step 3.
Click the pencil icon in the row for your vehicle.
Click the bin icon at the bottom of the vehicle editor.
Continue through to the hardware tracker deactivation screen. Your GPS tracker will automatically be filled into the list to be deactivated.
Press the Submit button to confirm the deactivation of your Track My Ride GPS vehicle tracker.
Step 3: Contact Support to Remove the Unit
As the original hardware owner, Track My Ride support needs to receive an email from you with authorisation to remove the hardware tracker from your account. The new owner cannot activate the tracker on their own account while it's still linked to your original account.
Send an email from your original account email address to support@trackmyride.com.au authorising the removal of the tracker from your account.
Track My Ride support can only remove a tracker from your account if it has already been deactivated in Step 2.
Support will let you know once the tracker has been removed from your account. The tracker will be fully removed, making it ready to be activated by the new owner in their own new account.
Step 4: Give the New Owner the Communication ID
Your original recorded tracking data remains associated with your account and does not transfer to the new owner. The new owner will not have access to the tracking history that was originally recorded against your account.
Give the new owner the Communication ID of your tracker.
The new owner will need to create their own account by visiting https://app.trackmyride.com.au and registering. During the account setup process they will need to enter the Communication ID you have provided them.
The new owner will need to wait until Track My Ride support has completed removing the tracker from your existing account in Step 3 before they can register the tracker against their new account.
Your historic tracking data remains private and stays with your account. The new owner starts with a clean tracking history in their own account.
