Choosing the best install location
When installing your new Track My Ride GPS tracker, choosing the right location is crucial.
Below, you'll find a guide to help you find the perfect spot.
Things to consider
Location
Your GPS device wants the best view of the sky that it can.
- GPS signal easily passes through glass, plastic and fiberglass, however, does not pass well through metal.
- Unfortunately
all metal blocks GPS signals (to some extent), so the more of it there
is, or the thicker it is, the more the signal from the satellites is
reduced until it drops out and a location can no longer be acquired.
- Our GPS units feature a very sensitive internal GPS antenna which is able to acquire a GPS signal though thin/light metal however we recommend avoiding it as much as possible.
Orientation
- Ensure the device is correctly orientated with the sign that's marked Face this side toward sky oriented correctly
Safety
- Never install where the tracker might interfere with airbag deployment
- Keep away from areas where it could become a projectile during an accident
- Ensure the device cannot come in contact with water
Top Recommended place
Under the dashboard
For
the best signal, place the tracker as high under the dash as possible
with minimal metal above it, ideally attached to the underside of the
dashboard.
Pros: minimal signal obscuring, discrete
Cons: generally requires opening up the vehicle's dash
Other locations to consider
If under the dashboard is not accessible, you may wish to try the locations below.

Please
note that the locations below will reduce the unit's GPS signal. To
ensure that the device is working correctly, we recommend taking the
vehicle for a drive. Please reach out to our support team if you need
