Journey has the same start and stop location
What You Might Notice
When viewing the Journey report, you may sometimes see trips that show the same location for both start and end points. While this might seem like an error, it's actually working as designed! Here's what to know:
How to Interpret These Journeys
Let's look at an example:
- The start and end addresses are identical
- The journey shows significant distance (e.g., 90.5km)
- There's a substantial duration (e.g., 1h 11m)
This typically means your vehicle made a round trip, returning to its starting point. You can verify this by:
- Use the history and playback feature on the map to load the journey's time period to view the route taken
- Looking for red stop markers along the route
- Clicking these markers to see how long the vehicle stopped at each location on the journey
Why This Happens
Our system defines a journey's end when a vehicle remains stationary for 5+ minutes. This is determined by analysing GPS data points from your tracker. For round trips where stops are brief (under 5 minutes), the entire circuit is recorded as a single journey.
Customising Journey Detection
If you frequently make short stops that should mark the end of a journey, you can adjust this:
- Go to Application Settings
- Find "Journey Settings"
- Reduce the end of journey stationary time requirement
- Save your changes
For detailed instructions on adjusting these settings, visit our Journey Settings guide.

Pro Tips
- Click any red stop marker on the map to view the duration of stops
- Use the journey distance and duration to verify round trips
- Check the route on the map using historic playback for a complete view of the vehicle's path
- You can adjust how frequently red stop markers are placed on the map, they are independent from the stationary time required to end a journey. Learn more here.
